Teapot / Yutaro Yamada / Mogake Tea / Yokode

Sale price¥34,000

This is a kyusu (teapot) made by Yutaro Yamada, one of Tokoname's leading young artists.

[Usability]

A major characteristic of his work is its ease of use.
It is made to be very lightweight, so you can pour tea without feeling heavy even with hot water inside.

It is also compact, making it easy for anyone, even women, to handle.

The holes in the tea strainer are all handmade. They are very fine, so you can use it even for deep-steamed sencha without any problems.

Each kyusu has a tea strainer made to the appropriate size, and the angle of attachment is also adjusted, resulting in a kyusu with excellent water drainage that makes the moment of pouring a pleasure.

The handle is also distinctive; as shown in the image, it is held between the index and middle fingers.
This makes it easier to turn your hand and provides a stable pour. With a regular kyusu, this way of holding it would be heavy and put a strain on your hand when filled with water, but Yutaro-san's kyusu offers a comfortable fit and lightness that prevents strain.

Recommended water volume: 100ml - 120ml (fill up to the middle of the tea strainer as a guide.)

[Design]

The design features are the clay, patterns, and colors.
He personally searches for clay taken from the mountains of Tokoname. After aging it for several years to remove impurities, the surface becomes beautifully finished with few scratches.

He also uses a traditional technique called "mogake" to create stylish patterns.
Before firing, "seaweed" is wrapped around the kyusu, envisioning the final appearance, to create the pattern.

This kyusu turns brown through a firing method called "oxidation firing."
