Producer Introduction / Koka City, Shiga Prefecture (Asamiya Tea) / Tatsuo Takeda, "Takeda Seicha Nojo Mitani Chaen"
Asagami, Shigaraki-cho, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, is said to be the birthplace of Japanese tea, as it is where Saicho sowed tea seeds he brought back from China during the Heian period.
In addition, since the land was formed by the uplift of what was once Lake Biwa, the soil is rich in minerals. Some of the tea fields even have moss growing on the soil.
Mr. Takeda of Takeda Seicha Nojo Miyachaen has been cultivating tea in such a land for many years.
In addition to sencha, he has been actively involved in making Japanese black tea from an early stage and handles a wide variety of cultivars. Even now, he continues to experiment with various cultivars and production methods.
At Shiragi Sabo, we offer the first flush of the "Benifuki" cultivar.
It has a refreshing aroma reminiscent of lemon. Also, it has very little astringency and a refreshing taste, so even those who dislike the astringency of black tea are sure to enjoy it.
Please try it once.
